Milton Keynes Cinema "Great Family Fun” Directed by Shawn Levy (Big Fat Liar, Cheaper by the Dozen) this second instalment of Museum capers is packed with great visual effects and will delight all those who enjoyed the first film. Larry (Ben Stiller) has hung up his night guard’s torch and has moved onto bigger and better things, making a name for himself selling inventions and building a successful company. It is as he passes by the Natural History Museum (the setting for the first film) that he notices that it is closing for renovations. Intrigued to see what will happen to his friends in the museum Larry investigates and learns they are to be shipped to the Smithsonian Institute, where they will be boxed up and stored in the underground storage facility. The “ancient tablet” that gives them life is to be left behind at the Natural History Museum which means that all the characters being moved will all remain in their statuesque state. However the tablet is accidently transported to the Smithsonian Museum! One of the characters, the evil Kamunrah is determined to use the ancient tablet for his own selfish purposes, mainly world domination, and unleash the forces of darkness. Keen to save the day and his historical buddies Larry teams up with Ameila Earhart (Amy Adams) to combat not only Kamunrah but also Al Capone and Napoleon. There are plenty of laughs and the effects are good, even if the storyline is a bit predictable. There are all the old faces from the first film, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan and Ricky Gervais all of which help keep the continuity to the storyline. A good easy going family film that is definitely worth watching. Film length is 105 minutes....don’t forget your popcorn! Star Rating 3/5 Review by John Daly |
